Tax Breaks on Telecommunication Equipment Extended through
2009
On February 17th, 2009, the Section 179 tax provision that
aided businesses in acquiring new equipment in 2008 was
extended when President Obama signed into law the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
If you have been considering upgrading your phone system
or data gear, you may wish to take advantage of these
generous tax breaks while they are still available.
Under Internal Revenue Code Section 179, businesses are
allowed to expense up to $250,000 on most equipment or
software placed in service during the tax year 2009.
Additionally,
businesses are able to expense up to 50% of
the remaining figure
under the depreciation bonus provision.
This tax break, known as the Section 179 Deduction, gives
businesses the opportunity to invest in themselves by
lowering the cost of the equipment they need to purchase or
lease to run their day-to-day operations.
