Texas SB 507: Video Surveillance in Special Education Takes Effect
To promote student safety, the Texas Senate Bill 507 is to take effect as of June 16, 2016 and to be in full force for the 2016-2017 school year.
The SB 507 requires all Texas school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide video surveillance cameras in all areas of special education classrooms. The video surveillance cameras are to include video and audio coverage, with the video recording retained for up to 6 months. The Texas Education Agency has provided strict rules and regulations to be followed which can be found here and here.
